Catawba Valley Health System’s comprehensive, community-oriented
care offers physicians and other healthcare professionals the unique opportunity
to make a real difference in the lives of their patients while enjoying
the exceptional quality of life that defines the Catawba Valley area.
Living and working in the Catawba Valley area truly represents the best
of both worlds. Nestled in the lush rolling foothills of North Carolina’s
scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, the area is a natural haven of sheltering
trees, cool streams and wide, winding lakes and rivers with a mild climate
that displays the best of all seasons. Yet for all its pastoral splendor,
the Hickory Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is the fourth largest
in the state with a population of approximately 400,000. Known world-wide
for its furniture, hosiery and textile manufacturing, it has rapidly grown
into one of the largest centers of manufacturing.
Designated by National Geographic as one of the "Best Small Cities
in the U.S.," the Hickory area is a wonderful place to live. Visit the following sites for more information about our area:
The area is also well known for its cultural and educational climate. The
Catawba Valley area is home to its own professional symphony orchestra,
a host of arts and science museums and a thriving theater community. There
are 36 public schools in Catawba County alone, and two colleges: Lenoir-Rhyne
University, a 129-year-old liberal arts institution, and Catawba Valley
Community College, a member of the N.C. Community College System.
Golfing, boating, fishing, water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, camping,
tennis and cycling can all be enjoyed throughout the year in and around
the area. The Catawba Valley is also home to its own minor league professional
baseball team and stock car racing speedway, with additional sporting
events such as the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, the NBA’s Charlotte
Bobcats and Winston Cup Racing at Lowes Motor Speedway only an hour’s
drive away in Charlotte.
