Mobile Lithotripsy

Catawba Valley Medical Center has been serving North Carolina for more than two decades, delivering high quality treatment of kidney stones.

The procedure performed by our mobile service is called Extracoporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). This is a non-invasive treatment for kidney stones. The lithotriptor attempts to break up the stone with minimal collateral damage by using an externally applied, focused, high-intensity acoustic pulse. The patient is usually sedated or anesthetized for the procedure to help them remain still and reduce possible discomfort.
