Senior Resource Round Up

One of the biggest barriers to senior services is a lack of knowledge about the services. To help promote the broad array of programs, events, and classes provided for the area’s aging population by CVMC, here is a virtual version of those presented at a Senior Resource Fair held Tuesday, May 5th at Valley Hills Mall. CVMC was a premier event sponsor and one of over 40 service organizations from around the region participating to help inform seniors about relevant topics to enhance life in their later years.

  • CVMC Community Cancer Resource Center – our oncology team stresses the importance of early breast cancer detection in seniors of both genders and offers resources for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • CVMC Heart Services and Primary Stroke Center – highly trained specialists from the key areas of stroke and cardiology care will offer prevention, diagnoses (should this be “diagnosis”?..maybe not) and treatment information.
  • CVMC Volunteering – Consider joining the hundreds of CVMC volunteers who share their time and talents with staff and patients serving in a host of special roles including answering questions and providing directions at information desks; volunteering in the Pet Therapy program or playing music for patients and visitors. Contact Betty Long, Director of Volunteer Services, at 828-326-3434 or email – balong@catawbavalleymc.org for more information on volunteering at CVMC.
  • CVMC Fitness Plus – Pick up information about senior exercise, nutrition, fitness, and wellness programs offered at the 10,000 square-foot CVMC Fitness Plus facility adjacent the hospital. Ask about our 88 degree, indoor lap pool among other options for a safe, effective workout designed to address senior concerns.

Save the Date! The Prime of Life Senior Expo for 2015 is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2015, from 9:00amto 3:00pmat the Hickory Metro Convention Center. CVMC will again join the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, SiR (Senior Information Resources) and the Catawba County Aging Coalition at the expo, which drew 2,500 in 2014.

The Health First Center offers a broad array of programs and wellness services focused directly at the seniors of our community. For more information about any of the events listed above, please contact Carol Robinson by telephone 828.485.2696 or by email cbrobinson@catawbavalleymc.org.
