Computed Tomography (CT or CAT)

Catawba Valley Medical Center has two scanners a 128 slice and a 64 slice. These scanners offer technology allowing us to obtain images of the body using the lowest amount of radiation possible while maintaining excellent image quality. Unique to the Unifour area, we are able to scan patients weighing up to 675 pounds.

Catawba Valley Medical Center performs routine imaging of all anatomy. We offer Cardiac Scoring and CT Angiography of the heart, lungs and vessels. Catawba Valley Medical Center is unique to the Unifour in that we utilize this scanner to aid in interventional studies (biopsies, drains) using CT Fluoroscopy with 3D image guidance for greater accuracy.

We also perform not only diagnostic studies but also therapeutic procedures. We perform treatment of renal, liver, bone or lung lesions using either Microwave or Cryo-ablation treatment systems.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has accredited our system in adult and pediatric imaging. Catawba Valley Medical Center is proud to be recognized as an Image Gently facility.

Interventional Radiology (IR)

Catawba Valley Medical Center offers interventional radiology (IR), sometimes known as vascular and interventional radiology (VIR), is a medical specialty which provides minimally invasive image-guided diagnosis and treatment of disease. The unifying concept behind these procedures is the application of image guidance and minimally invasive techniques to minimize risk to the patient.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI or MR)

MRI_GreenCatawba Valley Medical Center has a 1.5 T magnet performing a variety of exams. Our department is equipped to offer a wide range of studies for any body part including cardiac.

Our scan room is equipped with patient monitoring and an anesthesia machine, enabling us to scan the critical ICU patient or place a patient under anesthesia for the exam. We also offer a patient comfort system allowing patients to listen music during the scan.

The MRI at Catawba Valley Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Giving us the Gold Standard for imaging and patient care.

Mobile Lithotripsy
Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear_PurpleCatawba Valley Medical Center has three locations to serve our community. All facilities follow the “Image Gently Guidelines” for radiation safety in pediatric imaging to improve safe and effective imaging care of children. Each location is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The nuclear medicine department at CVMC is located on the main floor. We perform a multitude of exams at this location using a Siemens Symbia gamma camera. Exams performed at this location include cardiac stress testing, thyroid imaging, bone scans, lung scans, liver/gallbladder imaging, GI bleeding scans, brain perfusion imaging, and therapeutic treatments for thyroid and prostate cancer.

We have a second location at the Catawba Valley Imaging Center. At this location, we perform many routine nuclear medicine studies such as bone scans, HIDA scans, gastric emptying studies, and cardiac function studies. This facility is also capable of performing specialized scans to identify areas of bone infection, and parathyroid adenoma using a Siemens Symbia Intevo SPECT/CT camera. This allows the nuclear images showing areas of concern to be fused with a low radiation CT scan. This allows the radiologist to more accurately identify the exact anatomic location of the abnormality.

Our third location is at Catawba Valley Cardiology. We perform outpatient nuclear cardiac stress imaging at this facility using a Siemens Evo gamma camera. The technologist will image cardiac perfusion prior to and following treadmill or pharmacological stress testing. This exam identifies areas of the heart that have suffered damage from a heart attack, along with areas that may not be receiving adequate blood flow due to a blockage.
