About Me

Kirsten Schutte, MD
Dr. Kirsten Schutte is a dual Board-Certified physician in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. After finishing her medical training at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, she completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and her Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA before accepting a position in her husband’s home state of Oregon. Over the next eight years, she helped develop and expand access to Infectious Disease expertise within a nine-county catchment area in southern Oregon, serving a population of nearly 600,000. In 2024, her ties to family and friends in the region led her to Hickory and the opportunity join Catawba Valley Infectious Disease Consultants. Dr. Schutte’s professional interests include infection prevention and improving diagnostic stewardship in addition to providing exceptional patient-centered care. Outside of work you’ll find her spending time with family and friends, reading (preferrably while curled up with one of her two cats), finding new outlets for her creative side, and hiking in mountains of western North Carolina.
