About Me

James Harris, MD

Dr. James W. Harris is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. His expertise includes glaucoma consultations, medical therapy, laser treatments, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries such as Kahook Dual Blade, XEN, and endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP). Dr. Harris also performs anterior segment surgery, small-incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation, and eyelid and external eye procedures. In addition, he provides comprehensive primary eye care, including routine eye examinations and prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Harris is affiliated with Catawba Valley Medical Center and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Catawba County Medical Society.

He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, completed his internship at Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Hospitals. Dr. Harris further specialized with a glaucoma fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center.
