Bill Pay FAQs

I received a text regarding my bill, is this legitimate?

Yes! In September 2023, Catawba Valley Health System began using text messages and emails to contact patients regarding their bills.  The text messages come from (828) 214-7674.

Can I opt out of receiving text messages?

Yes, simply reply “STOP” to any message you receive and you will be opted out of any future text messages.

Will I receive a paper statement in the mail?

Yes, each new account will have a paper statement sent in the mail.  Please keep in mind that you may receive the text message or email before receiving the paper statement.  You can also view your paper statement through the link in the text message.

I received a phone call identified as spam. Is that phone number legitimate?

Our billing call center makes calls from (828) 419-1215.  If your account has been moved to the collection agency, that phone number is (877) 521-6773.

I cannot afford my bill, what are my options?

We have various options for patients that need assistance with their bill.  We offer long term payment arrangements through Access One as well as financial assistance for those who qualify.  It is important to contact us to set up formal payment arrangements to prevent your account from becoming delinquent.  Please contact our customer service center at (828) 419-1215.

Why did I receive multiple bills?

Many providers can be involved with the care you receive at Catawba Valley Health System.  You  may get a separate bill from the Emergency Room provider, Specialty provider, Radiologist, Pathologist, or Anesthesiologist. 

Can I request an estimate for a future service?

Yes!  We have a self service tool on our website that can be used to generate an estimate.  Please visit here.

Why was my account sent to a collection agency?

All accounts are sent an initial paper statement as well as a series of text messages or emails.  If a formal payment arrangement is not set up or payment in full is not received within 120 days, then your account will be referred to a collection agency.

Do you offer any discounts?

We offer Financial Assistance to those who qualify.  We do not offer any prompt pay or payment in full discounts at this time.

Why can’t you discuss my family member’s account?

HIPAA laws dictate who our staff can speak with regarding your patient account.  Any patient over 18 years old must grant permission for us to speak with another individual regarding their account.  For more information, please visit https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/privacy/laws-regulations/index.html
