FaithHealth Catawba, which is a faith-based outreach program led by Catawba Valley Health System (CVHS), recently began partnering with NC MedAssist to ensure access to medications for those in need throughout Catawba County and surrounding areas.

“Prescribed medications are just one piece of the Access-to-Care Puzzle. Being able to afford the prescribed medications is challenging to many community members,” said Carolyn Thompson, CVHS Health First Faith Community Nurse. “NC MedAssist may take away the strain of not being able to afford medications. Broad, affordable access to medication exists through our organizations working together.”

FaithHealth is a partnership between the local faith community and CVHS that is focused on improving community health. The partnerships combine the caring strength of congregations, the expertise of healthcare providers, and a network of community resources.

NC MedAssist is the only statewide non-profit pharmacy in North Carolina. They work to provide necessary prescription and over-the-counter drugs to the uninsured and underprivileged. Since their inception, programs such as The Free Pharmacy Program, the Mobile Free Pharmacy, and other community partnerships have served more than 68,000 North Carolinians and filled more than 190,000 prescriptions.

“Catawba Valley Health System is the community’s health system. We have always strived to meet the healthcare needs of the community,” said Marcus Osborne, Director of Wellness Services for CVHS. “One of those needs we identified through our FaithHealth Catawba programs is access to affordable medication. This partnership gives us the ability to help members of our community get the medication they need to take control of their health.”

CVHS is proud to be a Partner in Hope with NC MedAssist, which will allow uninsured patients access to free prescription medications through NC MedAssist’s Free Pharmacy Program. Through this partnership, health providers connect patients to pharmacy services as part of their continuum of care.

“NC MedAssist is grateful to be able to collaborate with FaithHealth Catawba and increase medication access to people most in need,” said Nicole Stanfield, NC MedAssist Chief Program Officer. “Now, more than ever we want to ensure people don’t have to choose between purchasing food or their medication.”
