We are proud to announce that Catawba Valley Medical Center has been designated as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence by the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). The Antimicrobial Stewardship Centers of Excellence program promotes excellence in antimicrobial use and combating antimicrobial resistance by recognizing hospitals that effectively demonstrate excellence in this work.
Antimicrobial stewardship is the effort to measure and improve how antimicrobial medications, such as antibiotics, antifungals, and antivirals are prescribed by clinicians and used by patients. Improving the processes of prescribing and using these drugs is critical to effectively treat infections, protect patients from harms caused by unnecessary use, and combat resistance.
“Becoming a Center of Excellence of Antimicrobial Stewardship represents the outstanding work from Catawba Valley Medical Center excelling practices in antimicrobial use. This echoes the teamwork and expertise from our excellent pharmacist and ID trained physician. We are proud of our hospital and our capabilities to offer patients of our region outstanding care. To be a part of one of only four hospitals in the state of North Carolina to have the CoE Certificate makes me proud,” said Dr. Veronica Corcino, Infectious Disease provider.
This designation is another way that CVMC continues to prove our dedication toward patient safety and satisfaction. To learn more about Catawba Valley Medical Center, visit CatawbaValleyHealth.org.
