The Employee Health and Wellness Clinic is proud to serve the employees of Catawba Valley Health System who utilize CVMC’s health insurance plans. The Employee Health and Wellness Clinic can provide care for basic acute illnesses, non-work-related injuries, annual wellness exams with labs, and primary care services. Our goal is to provide quick and efficient basic health care services and to help you meet your overall wellness needs. Who can use the Employee Health and Wellness Clinic?

All employees of CVHS that currently have our health insurance. Both the PPO and High Deductible plans are accepted.

What services does the Employee Health and Wellness Clinic offer?

The Employee Health and Wellness clinic will offer care for basic acute illnesses, non-work-related injuries, annual wellness exams with labs, and primary care services for general and overall wellness. Serious medical conditions are not appropriate for the Employee Health and Wellness Clinic. This clinic will be like the services provided by Employee Express Care. The Employee Health and Wellness clinic will be an outpatient setting that aims to reduce your wait time to see a provider in addition to providing quick and efficient basic health care services.

What is the cost of using the Employee Health and Wellness Clinic?

This clinic’s fee is based on the type of insurance plan you selected in your benefits package during open enrollment. Those who have the PPO plan will have a $10 copay for acute visits and primary care visits, that will be collected upon checking into to the clinic. Employees who select the High Deductible plan will have to pay an out-of-pocket discounted premium until their deductible has been met. Payment will be collected at the end of the visit for the High Deductible plan. The annual wellness visit including labs will free for both health insurance plans.

What are your hours of operation?

The Employee Health and Wellness Clinic will be open Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4pm. The office will close during lunch from 12-1 pm; however, the lobby will remain open should you arrive early for your afternoon appointment.

For after-hour needs, please contact your primary care office, nearest urgent care, or the Emergency Department if warranted. After-hours availability through Employee Express Care in the Emergency Department is available Monday-Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:30 A.M. or all-day Saturday and Sunday.

How can we schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by contacting our office by phone at (828) 326-3230. Please indicate you are a current employee and needing to make an appointment at the Employee Health and Wellness Clinic as the phone number is shared with the Occupational Health office. Please indicate what type of appointment you are seeking, whether it is acute/sick visit, a primary care visit, or your annual wellness screening.

Do you take walk-ins?

While walk-ins can be accepted, appointments are preferred to limit wait time and aide in scheduling. Typically, same day visits are available with minimal wait time if you call ahead for an appointment.

Is this clinic for workers comp or work-related injuries?

No, you will continue to follow the CVHS policy on work related injuries by seeking care in the ED and then following up with Occupational Health Clinic.

Donna Sandifer, DNP, AGNP
Donna Sandifer is dual certified as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. After becoming a Registered Nurse in 1991, she worked in a variety of nursing areas at Catawba Valley Medical Center but found her greatest passion while working in Critical Care.  She later obtained her undergraduate at University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012. In 2020, she graduated from East Carolina University with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. In 2022, she completed an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has worked in the areas of Infectious Disease, HIV, and long term care.
