Dr. Jason Kihneman, Dr. David Locklear, Physician Assistant Hannah Bailey and Family Nurse Practitioners Penny Matlock, Danielle Wood, Anette Crombie, and Christopher Johnson welcome you to their Family Medicine practice. The top priority of Dr. Kihneman, Dr. Locklear and their staff is helping you and your loved ones prevent illness and maintain physical and emotional well-being by providing medical care and recommending healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Kihneman provides healthcare for men and women of all ages from newborns to great grandparents. Our providers manage acute and chronic illnesses, treat acute injuries, perform minor office surgeries and, when necessary, refer you to an appropriate specialist. Just think of your family medicine provider as your first line of defense in guarding your most valuable possession of all: your health.

After-Hours Care Options

To speak with a Catawba Valley Family Medicine provider afterhours, please call: 828.324.0258. This service provides direct access to the on-call provider, not a triage phone line, to increase access to care and is intended for medical questions or concerns. Please call 911 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Medical issues can strike at any moment and you’re primary care physician may not always be available to look after you right when you need them. When this happens, you can receive the medical attention you need at a Catawba Valley Extended Hours clinic.

Catawba Valley Health System currently operates two extended hours clinics:
Catawba Valley Extended Hours – Maiden – This clinic is open Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. No appointments are necessary.
Catawba Valley Extended Hours – Claremont – This clinic is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Urgent Care facilities offer a convenient option for injuries and illnesses that aren’t quite serious enough for the ER but still prompt you to seek a doctor’s care.

Catawba Valley Health System currently operates two Urgent Care clinics:
Urgent Care at Sherrills Ford – 3900 Terrell Park Dr, Suite 102, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 (COMING SOON)
Urgent Care at Belle Hollow – 3022-A North Center St, Hickory, NC 28601 (COMING SOON)

Patient Portal:

Our Providers

Anette Crombie, FNP-C
Anette Crombie, FNP-C
Annette is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University in 1986. After 24 years working as a Registered Nurse in many clinical settings, such as critical care, hemodialysis, and long-term care, she attended Oregon Health & Science University and graduated with a Master of Nursing degree in Nursing Education/Gerontology in 2012. Subsequently, she obtained a post-Master’s certificate as an FNP from the University of Cincinnati in 2020. Annette is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Whenever family schedules align, she enjoys sailing, traveling, and spending time with her husband Dave, and daughter Rachel.
Christopher Johnson, DNP, FNP-C
Christopher Johnson, DNP, FNP-C
A nationally certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Christopher Johnson is a native of Granite Falls, NC. Christopher graduated from Western Carolina University (2013) with a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care. Later he went on to complete his undergraduate nursing education at Catawba Valley Community College (2018) and Appalachian State University (2019). During his four years as a critical care nurse, Christopher earned the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University (2022) and subsequently earned certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to joining the Catawba Valley Family Medicine group, he has been working for Caldwell UNC Health Care as a Nurse Practitioner with the Hospitalist service.

Christopher’s interests include preventative healthcare and family wellness. He lives locally with his wife Jamie and their son. In his free time, he enjoys family time, traveling, and spending time at the beach.

Danielle Wood, FNP-C
Danielle Wood, FNP-C
Danielle is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Indiana University in 2006, before attending Ball State University’s Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner program earning her Master of Science degree in 2014. Danielle is a former board certified Emergency Nurse with dynamic background of clinical and education experiences in health care. A member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, North Carolina Nurses Association. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and various outdoor activities such as baseball/softball, hiking, biking, and photographing landscapes.
David Locklear, MD
David Locklear, MD
Dr. David Locklear a family doc with 41 years of experience. He lives outside of Maiden on a farm with my wife Stacy and has 8 grandkids, 5 of them under 3 years of age, Wow!!! He is very involved in his church, teaching Sunday school and church council. He loves spending time at the coast and family gatherings. Dr. Locklear’s special interests in family medicine is taking care of the whole family, newborn to great grandparents, pediatrics, well women exams and adult medicine. He has no interest in retiring and loves what he does.
Hannah Bailey, PA-C
Hannah Bailey, PA-C
Hannah Bailey was born and raised in Morganton, NC. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Western Carolina University. During this time, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she delivered high-quality, compassionate patient care.

She furthered her education by attending the Medical University of South Carolina where she earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree. Throughout her clinical rotations is when she discovered her passion for family medicine and began to hone her skills in treating various acute and chronic conditions. She strengthened these skills during her elective rotation at a rural family medicine clinic where she was able to provide care to those with limited medical resources. Hannah joined Catawba Valley Family Medicine – West Mountain View after becoming board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys riding her horse, exploring new places, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Kihneman earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and completed his Family Medicine residency at the McLennan County Medical Education and Research Foundation in Waco, Texas. Dr. Kihneman is board certified in Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He and his wife Sarah are the parents of four sons Sam, Henry, Max, and Charlie. He enjoys traveling, hiking, running, and spending time with his family.

Kathy is a Registered Nurse and a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner having earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of West Virginia in 1995 and Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree at the University of West Virginia in 2000. She is credentialed by the NC Board of Nursing and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has cared for people and families in both very rural and Urban settings. Her passion is horseback riding and is an accomplished equestrian. Riding and camping in the wilderness areas of North Carolina, Virginia, and Ohio are her favorite leisure activities with family and friends.

Lauren Baird is a board certified Physician Assistant. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from NC State University in 2012, before attending Wingate University’s Graduate Physician Assistant program earning her Master’s degree in 2015. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Penny Matlock, FNP
Penny Matlock, FNP
Matlock is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner who earned her Post-Master’s Certificate, Family Nurse Practitioner from Duke University in Durham, NC. She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners who also has a Master of Science in Nursing and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Matlock’s experience demonstrates a strong passion for caring for improving the health of families in our community.
