The top priority of our providers and staff is helping you and your loved ones prevent illness and maintain physical and emotional well-being by providing medical care and recommending healthy lifestyle choices. Our practice manages acute and chronic illnesses, treats acute injuries, performs minor office surgeries and, when necessary, refers you to an appropriate specialist. This service provides direct access to the on-call provider, not a triage phone line, to increase access to care and is intended for medical questions or concerns. Please call 911 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Medical issues can strike at any moment and you’re primary care physician may not always be available to look after you right when you need them. When this happens, you can receive the medical attention you need at a Catawba Valley Extended Hours clinic.

Catawba Valley Health System currently operates one extended hours clinic:
Catawba Valley Extended Hours – Maiden – This clinic is open Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 8:00am and 5:00pm to 6:30pm

Urgent Care facilities offer a convenient option for injuries and illnesses that aren’t quite serious enough for the ER but still prompt you to seek a doctor’s care.

Dr. Harvey graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri in 2001, and became Board Certified in Family Medicine after completing residency at Corpus Christi Medical Center: BayArea in 2004. He has practiced medicine at Sansum-Santa Barbara Medical Foundation Clinic in Lompoc, California; Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama; Genesis Primecare in Longview and Marshall, Texas prior to moving to Hickory, North Carolina and joining Catawba Valley Medical Group.

Jay met his wife, Catherine, while in residency in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was married shortly after moving to California. He grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, and attended UCSB for undergraduate school where he got a Bachelors in Physiology and Cell Biology. He and his wife have two daughters. He enjoys movies, music, and theater. Additionally, he enjoys travelling with his family. As an osteopathic physician, he occasionally utilizes OMT (osteopathic manipulative treatment) in addition to traditional medical treatements. Dr. Harvey has experience with treating a wide variety of health problems. He believes that the key to successful medical care is educating the patient so they can be an active participant in their own care and understand why they have been given a particular treatment or recommendation.

Jennifer is a graduate from The College of West Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant and has worked in Family Medicine for 25.5 years. She grew up in the mountains of West Virginia and relocated to North Carolina in 2016 with her husband and three daughters. Jennifer enjoys spending time with family, loves the outdoors and enjoys boating, fishing, and working with her flowers. Her passion is in Family Medicine. She states “I love getting to know my patients and their families, which helps to treat the patient as a whole.” She treats chronic illness, acute care, and obesity. She performs wellness exams in both men and women, minor surgeries, and sports physicals.

Karen Vaughn, FNP-C received a Master of Science degree at the University of South Alabama in 2023. She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is dedicated to providing exceptional care to patients of all ages and has worked with Catawba Valley Health System since 2017.

Karen was born in California but raised in North Carolina. She and her husband have a daughter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and staying active.
