After-Hours Care Options

To speak with a Catawba Valley Family Medicine provider afterhours, please call: 828.324.0258. This service provides direct access to the on-call provider, not a triage phone line, to increase access to care and is intended for medical questions or concerns. Please call 911 if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Medical issues can strike at any moment and you’re primary care physician may not always be available to look after you right when you need them. When this happens, you can receive the medical attention you need at a Catawba Valley Extended Hours clinic.

Catawba Valley Health System currently operates two extended hours clinics:
Catawba Valley Extended Hours – Maiden – This clinic is open Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. No appointments are necessary.
Catawba Valley Extended Hours – Claremont – This clinic is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Urgent Care facilities offer a convenient option for injuries and illnesses that aren’t quite serious enough for the ER but still prompt you to seek a doctor’s care.

Catawba Valley Health System currently operates two Urgent Care clinics:
Urgent Care at Sherrills Ford – 3900 Terrell Park Dr, Suite 102, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 (COMING SOON)

Patient Portal:

Dr. Anastasia Kosiske graduated from University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha Nebraska in 2019. She went on to complete her residency in Rural Family Medicine at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff NE. She has worked as a FP with OB in Clarion IA for the past two years before deciding to leave the OB practice and start a family. She is an outdoors adventurer and has thoroughly enjoyed her many travels to NC which has promoted her move to the Hickory area with her husband and two dogs. Dr. Kosiske loves all aspects of family medicine from newborns to elderly including clinical procedures and women’s health. She enjoys being able to maintain personal care and relationships with her patients and looks forward to the many new families she will be able to get to know here. Outside of Medicine Dr. Kosiske enjoys hiking, camping, dirtbikes, traveling, and spending weekends with her family!

Neil Eckard is a board-certified Physician Assistant. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Cell Molecular Biology. In his free time during his undergraduate education, he shadowed a variety of physicians and knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. After working as a pharmacy technician for 3.5 years and seeing a different side of medicine, he decided to continue his education with the Medical University of South Carolina. There he earned a Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2022.

A local to the Hickory area, he looks forward to giving back to the community and building healthy relationships with his future patients. He is passionate about primary care and seeing patients on the path to better health. Neil and his wife Abby reside in Newton with their cat Pepper. Outside of medicine Neil enjoys spending time with his family, game nights with friends, golf, and hiking.

Dr. Laney is a Caldwell County native. A 1999 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Thomas Laney earned his Doctor of Medicine attending medical school as a recipient of the UNC Medical Alumni Award/Scholarship, a four-year full academic scholarship. He then received clinical honors during his third and fourth years of medical school, after which he completed his Family Medicine residency at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2002. From 1987 to 1991 he served in the US Navy as a Corpsman and served as combat medic with the USMC. He is a veteran of the first Gulf war. He has been working at Graystone Family Healthcare in Conover since 2003. He enjoys the full scope and variety that family medicine provides. He especially enjoys caring for multi-generational families and being part of their family. Dr. Laney and his wife Ingrid of 18 years, reside in Hickory with their 3 daughters. He enjoys spending his time with family, soccer games, gardening and being outdoors. He is active in his church and currently serving as a deacon.
