Catawba Valley Health System

About Foundation

As part of Catawba Valley Health System, Catawba Valley Medical Center is a non-profit, locally controlled community hospital, making decisions based on what’s right for our community, not what’s profitable for an out of town or out of state corporation. CVMC is one of the last independent hospitals in the state and CVMC receives NO tax support.

Catawba Medical Foundation exists to support the mission of Catawba Valley Health System – the medical center, primary and specialty care clinics of our health system and Corporate Health division. While fiscally sound and self-sufficient in managing day to day operations, CVHS must turn to the community for assistance and philanthropic support for major building projects, renovations, equipment and special initiatives to ensure residents have access to the best resources available when they need it most. We need to take care of our hospital so it can take care of us. Catawba Medical Foundation works to keep excellent healthcare close to home.

Ways to Give

At Catawba Medical Foundation, we are grateful for contributions in any amount toward the fulfillment of our mission. What matters more, however, is the direct benefit these donations provide to the individuals and community served by Catawba Valley Health System. Your dollars literally touch the lives of the people who pass through our doors every day.

We recognize that at every level, philanthropy is an important and meaningful decision. Because of this, we have created a variety of ways to become a foundation patron.

Annual Giving

Catawba Medical Foundation depends on the generous donors who give year after year to ensure that the mission of CMF is fulfilled. The foundation welcomes gifts of any amount and they can be accepted online by clicking the links below. Gifts above $100 are recognized on plaques in the Oren L. Cline Philanthropy Center.

Major Gifts

Donors who wish to support Catawba Medical Foundation may give their money to be used for the most pressing need of Catawba Valley Health System or they may designate a specific are of program for which the money is to be used. Naming opportunities may be appropriate for gifts of a certain amount. If you wish to discuss options for your gift, please contact Guy Guarino at 828.326.3817.

Tribute Gifts

Catawba Medical Foundation offers several programs that allow for donors to recognize a special person in their lives while still providing important funding for the mission of the foundation.

Steps Into The Future – Catawba Medical Foundation offers a unique way for family members and friends to commemorate this meaningful occasion. Steps Into the Future is a special tribute to infants born at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Tree of Life – The Tree of Life memorial is dedicated to cancer warriors: those who have conquered it, those who have fought bravely but succumbed, and those who are on the frontlines helping in the fight.

Planned Giving

Many donors leave lasting gifts that benefit Catawba Medical Foundation as part of their estate plan. Such planned gifts or charitable bequests support the foundation while providing a lasting legacy for the donor.

If you have included Catawba Medical Foundation in your estate plan or would like to learn more about the simple process of becoming a Legacy Society member, please complete a Legacy Society Intention Form or contact Guy Guarino at (828) 326-3817.

Steps Into the Future

Catawba Valley Medical Center recognizes that the birth of your child is one of the most important and special experiences in your life.

Catawba Medical Foundation offers a unique way for family members and friends to commemorate this meaningful occasion. Steps Into the Future is a special tribute to infants born at Catawba Valley Medical Center. The newborn’s name and footprint is etched into a special silver medallion in either blue or pink with the date of birth. The medallion will be placed onto the beautiful display on the Birthing Center floor and then you will receive a duplicate medallion as a keepsake.

Not only is a Steps Into the Future medallion a gift of love that will last a lifetime, it is a gift that will continue to support the Birthing Center and its programs. A portion of the money from each medallion goes into the Maternal/Child fund of Catawba Medical Foundation. This fund helps purchase the newest and most vital equipment that makes the Birthing Center of Catawba Valley Medical Center the state-of-the-art facility that it is. The fund also supports the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or NICU. Even in the recent past, the sickest babies born in our community had to be sent to larger hospitals to be cared for, but now they can stay closer to home and still receive the highest quality care.

Your contribution of $195 will allow your baby’s footprint to be displayed with the hundreds of other babies born over the past decades. Additional medallions may be ordered for $75 each if ordered at the same time. Any baby born at CVMC—whether they were born ten days ago or ten years ago—may be added to the display.

Memorials

Children who were with us for too short a time may also be recognized in Steps Into the Future. A special satin bronze medallion will be etched with the name, footprint, and dates of birth and death. This tribute assures that your child will be always remembered in a beautiful way.

To order your medallions, please complete this online form or call 828.326.3670.

Catawba Medical Foundation is a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization. All funds received by CMF are used strictly to support Catawba Valley Medical Center and are tax-deductible to the extent of the law. Of the $195 contribution to Steps to the Future, $55 is considered a tax-deductible gift.

Tree of Life

The Tree of Life memorial is dedicated to cancer warriors: those who have conquered it, those who have fought bravely but succumbed, and those who are on the frontlines helping in the fight.

Dedicated to the memory of Claire L. Robinson, this beautiful display embraces a sense of hope and remembrance by honoring loved ones who have engaged in the fight against cancer.

Located on the first floor of the Pavilion, the contemporary design of a forest of everlasting trees represents optimism for the future even amidst the difficulties of a cancer diagnosis. The leaves of the tree are available for inscription: six-inch platinum leaves for a donation of $500 or six-inch gold leaves for a donation of $250. Every metal leaf on The Tree of Life is inscribed with the name of the honored individual and a short message.

The personalized leaves may also be used to recognize physicians, nurses or other staff who made a difference in the fight against cancer. Gifts are often given in the hope of a speedy recovery or to recognize special milestones, such as birthdays.

All donations from this display are used to fund cancer initiatives including defraying transportation costs for patients; educational programs for patients and their families; financial help for immediate needs like drugs and durable medical goods; and other programs in Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Program.

To honor a loved one on the Tree of Life, fill out this online form or contact us at 828.326.3670 for more information.
