Libby Shaver, MSN, RN, CBN

portraitLibby Shaver is the Bariatric Surgery Navigator at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She has been dedicated to the program since its inception in 2004. Her duties are centered on extensive patient education and behavior modifications that are required with bariatric surgery. Libby received her BS in Nursing from Lenoir-Rhyne University and MSN in Nursing Education from Gardner-Webb University. She is a certified bariatric nurse, certified support group leader and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the North Carolina Chapter of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.


Monty Cox, MD, FACS

portraitDr. Cox joined the Wake Forest Baptist Health Community Physicians (formerly Hickory Surgical Clinic) in 2003. Originally from South Carolina, he attended medical school and surgery residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. His surgery practice includes a broad range of general surgical interests, including laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, cancer surgery, breast surgery, colon surgery, general surgery (gallbladder, hernia, anti-reflux surgery, etc), as well as surgical weight loss procedures. He has an interest in single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), where appropriate. Dr. Cox serves as secretary for the Wake Forest Baptist Health Community Physicians, as well as the Medical Director of the Surgical Weight Management Program at CVMC.

Jonathan Hata, MD, FACS

portraitDr. Hata joined the Wake Forest Baptist Health Community Physicians (formerly Hickory Surgical Clinic) in 2008. Originally from Oregon, he attended medical school and residency at Duke University. He then went on to complete an additional year of fellowship training at Duke, focusing on minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopic surgery. His practice includes a broad scope of general surgery, including laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, cancer surgery, colon surgery, general surgery (gallbladder, hernia, anti-reflux surgery, etc), as well as surgical weight loss procedures. Dr. Hata has an interest in single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), where appropriate.

Baker Henson, DO

portraitDr. Henson joined the Wake Forest Baptist Health Community Physicians (formerly Hickory Surgical Clinic) in 2016. Originally from Boone, North Carolina he attended medical school at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA and completed his residency in general surgery at Pinnacle Health System in Harrisburg, PA where he carried the honor of Chief Resident. Dr. Henson is an accomplished researcher and featured presenter at numerous medical conferences including the Pennsylvania State Annual Bariatric Conference in Hershey, PA. His practice includes a broad scope of general surgery, including laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, cancer surgery, colon surgery, general surgery (gallbladder, hernia, anti-reflux surgery, etc), international surgical missions, as well as surgical weight loss procedures.

Katelyn Mayberry, BS, RD, LDN

portraitKatelyn is our Surgical Weight Management Bariatric Outreach Dietitian. This role specializes in providing evidence-based, research-supported, dietary and behavior education to patients who wish to restore their health, vitality, energy, confidence, and quality of life through bariatric surgery. Katelyn is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian; she completed her Dietetic Internship at Lenoir-Rhyne University, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Carolina University.

Jeanie Mask
