Magnet Designations
32nd Magnet Hospital
“Locate the nearest Magnet. If you can easily check into a Magnet
hospital, you’d be foolish not to.” –Readers Digest
The Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes health care organizations
for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional
nursing practice. To date, there are approximately 469 hospitals that
have been recognized with Magnet status in the United States and internationally.
Catawba Valley Medical Center has earned not one, but five consecutive
Magnet designations since 2001.
The Magnet designation, bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
(ANCC), recognizes health care organizations which promotes quality in
a setting that supports professional nursing practice, identifies excellence
in the delivery of nursing services to patients and disseminates best
practices in nursing services. Research shows that Magnet hospitals are
not only more effective at attracting and keeping quality nurses, but
patients there have lower mortality rates and shorter lengths of stay
than at non-Magnet hospitals. According to ANCC, the Magnet Recognition
Program® "is viewed around the world as the ultimate seal of
quality and confidence. Magnet Organizations are recognized for superior
nursing processes and quality patient care, which lead to the highest
levels of safety, quality and patient satisfaction."
The Importance of Magnet Status

Recognition Program provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to
measure the quality of care they can expect to receive.”
