New Solution for Heart Failure Patients – CardioMEMS

CardioMEMS is the first and only FDA-approved heart failure monitoring device proven to significantly reduce hospital admissions when used by physicians to manage heart failure. Featuring a miniaturized, wireless monitoring sensor implanted in the pulmonary artery (PA) during a minimally invasive procedure, CardioMEMS transmits patients’ PA pressure daily to providers at Catawba Valley Cardiology’s Heart Failure Clinic.

This new technology has been shown to greatly benefit patients, caregivers, their families in the following ways:

• Patients can take a more proactive approach to their cardio care
• Fewer heart failure patients need to be admitted to the hospital
• Financially advantageous for both hospitals and patients in the long run

CVMC also became the first hospital in the region to offer the Medtronic Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM). The smallest long-term heart monitor available for patients with recurrent fainting, heart palpitations, unexplained stroke or atrial fibrillation – Reveal LINQ is about 1/3 the size of a AAA battery and is inserted under a patient’s skin to provides continuous, wireless monitoring of the heart for up to three years.
