CVMC Heart Failure Expert Earns Prestigious Award

On Thursday, Catawba Valley Cardiology celebrated the retirement of Sara Paul, DNP, FNP-C. Sara has had a long, distinguished career of over 40 years – 10 of those being with Catawba Valley Cardiology. During her career, Sara served as a founding member of the American Heart Association of Heart Failure Nurses, and is active in the leadership of the Heart Failure Society of America and the American Heart Association. Sara has numerous publications in books and journals, and is the editor of two nursing textbooks. She regularly speaks at conferences, and currently sits on the editorial board of three professional journals. Now, as she embarks upon her retirement, Sara has earned one of the most prestigious awards in heart care.

It is our pleasure to announce that Sara Paul has received the 2023 Heart Failure Society (HFSA) of America Distinguished Member Award. The Distinguished HFSA Member Award is intended to celebrate a member’s body of work in the field of heart failure and their work and service to the Heart Failure Society of America.

“Clinical pioneer. Dedicated mentor. Creative educator. Innovative speaker. Productive author. Strong patient advocate. Multidisciplinary collaborator. Skilled leader. Committed nursing professional. These attributes define Dr. Sara Paul and the significant impact she has had on patient care, professional collaborations, the field of heart failure, and the Heart Failure Society of America,” according to those who nominated her for the award.

The award will be presented to Sara at the HFSA annual meeting this fall. “This is an honor and a capstone to my career,” Sara stated regarding the award.

Congratulations to Sara on receiving this once in a lifetime award, and on her upcoming retirement at the end of June. Catawba Valley Health System is forever grateful for your care and dedication toward caring for the citizens of the Catawba Valley region.
