CVMC Eases Visitation Restrictions

Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) is easing some of its visitor restrictions, initially put in place at the end of March to help protect the safety of patients and staff from the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Effective Tuesday, June 9th, CVMC will allow one designated support person to visit a patient admitted to the hospital or to accompany a patient seeking treatment at the hospital. Visitors are limited to one individual per day, and must abide by the following guidelines:

• Visitors must be age 18 or older.

• All visitors must wear a mask for the duration of their visit. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own mask.

• Visitors should remain in the designated area (where the patient is) for the duration of their visit. Cafeteria is not open to the public at this time.

• For the safety of patients and staff, permitted visitors are strongly discouraged from switching off with another individual during the duration of the patient’s stay.

• Patients in isolation or those being treated for COVID-19 may be subject to stricter visitor limitations.

Eddie Beard, President and CEO of Catawba Valley Health System, said, “As we increase our capacity to begin performing treatments, procedures and surgeries that were previously suspended due to COVID-19, we recognize the importance of re-evaluating our visitor restrictions so that patients can benefit from the comfort and assistance from a family member or designated support person. While we must remain diligent in protecting all who work and are treated at the hospital through social distancing and other safety processes, we felt the easing of visitor restrictions was now possible in a responsible manner.”

Others wishing to visit are encouraged to use phone calls and video chats on personal phones or mobile devices to communicate with loved ones until these restrictions are relaxed further.
