3 Great Reasons to Attend the BIG Latch On

Big Latch OnWhat is the Big Latch On?

The Big Latch On is a global event designed to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding by inviting nursing mothers to come together at registered locations around the world to nurse their children at the same time. The ultimate goal? To make breastfeeding a normal part of everyday life and educate others on the numerous benefits that breastfeeding brings.

How does it work?

The Big Latch On takes place over two days during World Breastfeeding Week and individual groups, like Catawba Valley Medical Center’s (CVMC) Center for Women and Children, can register and host their own version of the celebration. All breastfeeding women and children are to be latched on for one minute as they make a group attempt to bypass the previous record set by moms breastfeeding simultaneously worldwide.

The event hosted by CVMC’s Center for Women and Children will be held on Friday, August 3rd in CVMC’s AHEC 112, located through the entrance to the right of CVMC’s main lobby. The official latch on begins at 10:30am, but we ask that you please arrive by 9:30am to sign in, register for prizes and still have time to enjoy snacks while connecting with other breastfeeding moms.

Who Should Attend?

All nursing mothers and their children. Grandmothers, mothers, partners and spouses are also welcome.

Why Should You Participate?

  1. Be part of something truly “BIG” – this annual event unites breastfeeding women globally in support of breastfeeding. Offered locally at CVMC, this empowers you to take part in a worldwide event documented by designated witnesses who count the number of participants.
  2. Enjoy great company – solo outings can be a little more challenging for new moms. This event offers an excellent chance to get out and connect with like-minded women in a network of amazing people who think breastfeeding is as awesome as you do.
  3. Snacks, Gift Bags and Door Prizes! Both healthy snacks and sweet treats will be provided. All participants will receive a gift bag filled with a variety of mom and baby friendly items compliments of our local sponsors. Everyone in attendance will also be entered in for a chance to win one of many door prizes.
