Planning An Active Vacation

Vacation season is here. For most of us, that means taking a break from work and everyday responsibilities to have fun and relax with our family. But a fun family getaway doesn’t mean you have to abandon an active lifestyle. This summer, instead of spending time lounging on the beach or riding on a tour bus, plan a vacation that’s full of fun, outdoor activities.

Try to incorporate some of these ideas into your next trip:

  • Go swimming
  • Hike a trail
  • Take a walking tour
  • Go whitewater rafting, kayaking, or canoeing with a guide
  • Ride bikes
  • Try climbing, snorkeling, or scuba diving
  • Visit museums or zoos
  • Inline skate in a local park

ProTips:

Have your kids help map out your trip. Letting your child choose some of the family’s activities encourages good feelings about being physically active together.

Leave the electronic games at home.

If traveling a long distance, pack a healthy lunch or at least healthy snacks for everyone.

Have a schedule but be flexible, weather can be unpredictable or you could find something more fun or interesting so be open to changing plans.

The possibilities are endless. With some creative vacation planning, your next family vacation can create lasting memories and a better foundation for health.
