Catawba Valley Medical Center adopts new spiritual care model

HICKORY, NC – Oct. 15, 2013 – Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) has announced a new volunteer service for its spiritual care program following CVMC Chaplain John Robbins’ resignation. CVMC has historically operated its overnight and weekend spiritual care program through a similar model, and the expansion should bring a number of spiritual leaders into daily service at CVMC.

“John’s [Robbins] presence will be missed at Catawba Valley Medical Center,” said Adina Andreu, Vice President – Administration. “But, rest assured, the spiritual needs of CVMC’s patients will continue to be provided for, and the community’s support during this transition is appreciated.”

Carolyn Thompson, parish nurse, will assume the management role for the spiritual care program. She will be working with area spiritual leaders to cover the openings in the daily schedule and will focus on providing CVMC patients with spiritual care.

Spiritual leaders who are interested in serving CVMC’s patients on a volunteer basis are encouraged to contact Carolyn Thompson by calling (828) 485-2300 or emailing cwthompson@catawbavalleymc.org.
