CVMC EARNS SECOND CONSECUTIVE AASM RECOGNITION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HICKORY, NC — The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) has announced that Catawba Valley Medical Center has earned its second consecutive five-year accreditation for its Center for Sleep Disorders. The center is the only one in the region to receive such recognition.

CVMC’s Center for Sleep Disorders, which features 6 private bedrooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, and private consultation rooms, is staffed by American Board of Sleep Medicine Diplomates, pulmonologists, neurologists, registered polysomnographic technologists, and a sleep educator. Together, they diagnose and treat all types of sleep disorders including narcolepsy, sleep apnea, hypoxemia, circadian rhythm disorder, restless legs syndrome and insomnia.

To receive a five-year AASM accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the society. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

“Attaining this recognition for a second time really speaks to the dedication of our team,” said Scott Gibson, Director of the Center for Sleep Disorders. “As passionate champions of sleep’s critical role in maintaining overall health, we work very hard to ensure that each patient receives personalized attention and the best care we can possibly give.”

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other providers in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and labs, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine health care, education and research.
