Breast Cancer Survivor Speaks At Cancer Coalition's Sixth Annual "Pink Tea" On Sunday, Oct. 25

In honor and recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition (CCBCC) will host a “Pink Tea” on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. at FirstUnitedMethodistChurch in Conover. This is the organization’s sixth annual Pink Tea emphasizing a celebration of women and survivorship.

Breast cancer survivor Barbara Bates Smith will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Smith will perform “The C-Word: An Art-Meets-Life Cancer Story,” the story of her own diagnosis while playing the role of a cancer patient in the drama, “Wit.” Hammered dulcimer musical accompaniment will be provided by Jeff Sebens of Cana, Va.

The event will also include refreshments, door prizes, gifts and pink ribbon boutique. The Pink Tea is free and open to all women including cancer survivors, their families and friends. The Catawba County Breast Cancer Coalition is a multidisciplinary, multi-organizational group that reaches out to all populations in the community to educate about the importance of early detection for breast cancer and to provide the needed support services and resources for those diagnosed with breast cancer. The event is funded by the NC Foothills Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
