As an American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Hospital, Catawba Valley
Medical Center pledges to provide additional educational opportunities
for its staff, underlining its commitment to the health and well-being
of the region.
According to the American Board of Wound Management, “The Certified
Wound Care Associate (CWCA) board certification demonstrates a distinct
and specialized knowledge in wound management, thereby promoting quality
of care for persons with wounds.” Certified nurses must have a minimum
of three years experience to qualify for this certification. Goss and
Mason are the first two CVCWHH staff members to be certified.
Maier is the fourth CWCWHH staff member to successfully complete an Undersea
and Hyperbaric Medical Society and National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric
Medical Technology accredited hyperbaric medicine course. The 40-hour
training program covers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which can be used to
treat hard to heal wounds, among other conditions.
